Today we began circle with "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting at the Gate," and then heard the story of "The Little Red Hen," using a hand puppet. Everyone joined in with animal sounds, and pronouncements of "Not I!" when it was time to help the hen make the bread. After one telling, each child took on an animal part. We played, "The Farmer in the Dell," and now everyone has figured out how to make a circle, move and sing at the same time. A high point of the day was eating pancakes, skull or pumpkin, made by Ms. Downing. We also joined as a large group to act out a poem "Two Little Apples," as each child pretended to be an apple tree, shaking as real apples tumbled to the floor. It required patience to wait for each one to take a turn.
Tomorrow, Friday, we will hear the book, "Glad Monster, Sad Monster," that presents feelngs and works in color recognition. It is on loan from Ms. Peacock. We'll try and draw our own happy or sad faces. This is a musical group, so we'll have a chance to play instruments and sing, "Ram Sam Sam," and "Raggs," as well as the oldie but goody, "One little, two little, three little ghosts/goblins." and we'll end with the "Hooky Spooky."
