Thursday, November 6

Today we sang, "Rainbow 'Round Me," a song that talks about the colors in our world. We then read the book, "Eat Your Peas Louise," where a parent is trying to get Louise to eat her peas. After much pleading, it dawns on the parent that he forgot to say "Please!" Upon uttering that word, Louise takes the plunge and eats her peas. We looked at real peas, utensils and a copy of the word please, to liven up the experience. We then sang and moved to a song about keeping our hearts healthy by jumping, running and hopping. Then it was time to move our chairs to the rectangle table and try a new kind of painting, using a palette, watercolors, water and a paper towel. Children are directed to put the brush in the water, wipe it on the paper towel, put it in the water color, and then paint on the paper. That's a lot of directions. We will be repeating this kind of painting activity through the year. Color mixing fascinates children and sets the stage for further art exploration.
